From November 10-12, 2022, 8 of our young people plus their chaperones traveled to Long Beach, California to participate in the National Catholic Youth Conference. Here's a look at their experience. You can hear more from them this weekend at all the Masses. Thank you for your support.
From June 26 – July 1, 2022, two of our young people participated in the Diocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry’s Christian Leadership Institute (CLI). CLI provides high school youth an opportunity to develop skills for leadership and Christian Ministry. The weeklong experience challenges young people to share insights and knowledge and to foster one another’s learning experiences in group settings to more firmly reinforce participants’ ownership of skills and content for use in their unique settings.
Here are their reflections:
CLI was one of the best experiences of my life - we learned and played together. Over that short amount of time, we really grew as a family. I made many friends in that short time and we helped each other to be closer with God. It was so much fun but in those fun times we learned how to work and pray together, but also trust each other. CLI taught me how to be a leader - how to plan, communicate, seek consensus, about my leadership style, and how to work as a group. I learned how to be a leader not only in my home and school, but especially in my parish. This experience made me more open and want to get more involved with the church, and to speak up. I’m so glad God blessed me with this opportunity and my parish for paying for me to go. I thank you all for letting me have this experience. It was life changing. – Sunny-lyn Saddler, 9th grader
I’m so thankful that I was given the opportunity to attend CLI. I learned about different aspects of leadership that will help me become a better Christian leader. All the workshops were so helpful and insightful, I definitely plan on using these tools to be a leader for the parish and for school. Aside from learning, I was able to create strong relationships with the other participants. I would have never thought I could get so close to a bunch of people I’ve known for only 5 days. It’s truly amazing how close we all got at CLI and I will definitely cherish the fun we had. I’d like to thank you, generous parishioners, because without your generous donations, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to go to CLI. Thank you so much. – Kelli Lung, 12th grader
