COMMITTEES


The general role of each committee is advisory and consultative in nature.  Each exists to respond to the needs of the pastor regarding implementation of policies, practices and procedures that ensure a manageable approach to maintain and expand the parish consistent with the needs of the congregation and the objectives of the Diocese.  Our Lady of Sorrows has three committees:


Finance Committee: The role of the finance committee is to provide advice and consultation to the pastor in matters of the administration of parish goods.  The mission of the committee is to advise the pastor concerning any major committment of parish resources in excess of $5,000 before permission is requested of the Bishop and is consulted on the investment of parish funds.  The committee takes an active role in the preparation of the budget and the parish financial report submitted to the Bishop's Office in accordance with the forms issued by the Diocesan Business Office. Please contact Bill Powell, Chairperson.  


Development Committee:  This committee provides a management process that explores and implements fundraising methods in support of the parish financial obligations.  The management of fundraising methods is important in order to ensure that our parishioners are not being overburdened with other fundraising activities going on at the same time.  The mission of the committee is to understand and coordinate the fundraising beingplanned bu all parish organizations and to identify and implement the additional fundraising activities needed to meet the parish budgetary timeline.  The committee must also be aware of and be consistent with any restrictions, related to fundraising methods, imposed by the diocese and ensure that all fundraising is consistent with Hawaii General Excise Tax regulations.  Please contact Lora Baysa, Chairperson.
